9-year-old boy killed, man wounded in Far South Side shooting

A 9-year-old boy was killed and a man critically wounded in a shooting on Chicago's Far South Side late Friday, according to police.
Police say the shots were fired about 11:15 p.m. Friday by someone in a auto that pulled up next to an SUV the victims were in. Both victims were in a auto when someone pulled up alongside them and opened fire.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says there have been four children 12 and younger who have been fatally shot in Chicago in 2017 - one more than were shot and killed in all of 2016. The man was in critical condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A grey sedan pulled alongside and someone inside began shooting, according to police who did not identify either victim. Area South detectives were conducting an investigation. Police are investigating. No one is in custody. The youngest victim was 13 years old. The medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the fatality.
The fatal attack happened at 6:03 p.m.in the 4500 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the city's West Garfield Park neighborhood. Two men, ages 29 and 27, were in the street in the first block of North Leclaire when someone shot them, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 1:50 a.m.in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.
