And now, he's done something else they're used to - gotten himself suspended.

Detroit Lions defensive end Armonty Bryant was suspended four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the third time he has been suspended since the start of last season.

Despite Bryant's troubled past, the Lions signed him to a one-year deal for $855,000 in March after he showed good production, registering three sacks and a forced fumble in five games last season. He may not get many more chances.

He'll he eligible to return on October 2, prior to an October 8 showdown with the Carolina Panthers. He is allowed to participate in all of the team's preseason games and practices. After contributing in Detroit briefly last season, he was suspended three games for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse. His season ended in December when he suffered a knee injury.
