Naked man accidentally set on fire by police

The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, police say.

According to police, the man was eventually handcuffed after police found out he had warrants out for his arrest out of Two Rivers.

Police officers arrested a 32-year-old Manitowoc man Sunday evening for standing in the street without any clothes on.

During the altercation, officers used a Taser on Tingler three times. When they tried to put him in the squad auto, he kicked officers.

"The deployment of the Taser more than likely hit the lighter the person was holding in their hand, which caused a small burst, flame burst", Trilling said. When police arrived on the scene, they found the subject naked and shouting that he had a knife and meant to gut people in the home. This time, he fell to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement. Hospital staff said Tingler tested positive for marijuana and had a blood-alcohol count of 0.177.

According to police, the incident began around 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 14 in the area of S. 25th St. and Hamilton St. for a report of a naked man standing in the middle of the street yelling that he had a knife and that he was going to "gut" someone. When questioned, the man told police he was not doing anything wrong.

Reports said that the suspect told officers that it wasn't illegal to walk around without your clothes on, police clarified that there are local ordinances that do indeed make it illegal to walk around without your clothes on. "I asked him about his condition". Police instead handcuffed him and, finding a pair of trousers on the front lawn, tried to put them on Tingler.

Refusing to get into the police auto, Tingler struggled with police who drew their stun guns.

Police are recommending charges of battery to an officer, resisting a police officer, disorderly conduct and lewd and lascivious behavior.
