The water crisis which began in 2014 after a decision to change the city's water source caused high lead contamination to run through the veins of the city and affect the lives of the primarily Black and working class residents in the former factory town. Thousands of people in the city were exposed to the contaminated water, including children, and 12 people died in a Legionnaire's outbreak connected to the crisis.

Along with "24K Magic World Tour" promoter Live Nation, funds from ticket sales to the sold-out show will be redirected to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. The river water was found to be 19 times more corrosive than water from Detroit causing lead poising in many of Flint's residents. The donation will be made to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. Rapper Big Sean and R&B superstar Beyonce are among those who have donated to the foundation.
