Leicester City responded with a header from Japanese Shinji Okazaki to level things up before frontman Jamie Vardy put the Foxes infront with half an hour played.

The 2017-18 Premiere League season started off with an absolute thriller between Arsenal and Leicester City on Friday.

Giroud's clever header in the 85th minute secured the points after Lacazette had taken just 94 seconds to make his mark with a header from Mohamed Elneny's curling cross, equalling the record for the fastest opening goal in a Premier League season.

Wenger shuffled his pack and Aaron Ramsey levelled with eight minutes remaining before fellow substitute Giroud wrapped up the points.

The Premier League season started in incredible fashion, with two goals in a matter of minutes after the opening whistle. I opened the door for him because I know it's important for him to play but I don't want him to go.

Ronald Koeman's Everton have been most heavily mentioned in connection with the £25m-rated 30-year-old, with the likes of West Ham United, Marseille and Lyon also credited with an interest.

North Korea standoff wipes $1trn off global stocks
In commodities, US. crude fell 0.67 per cent to $49.23 per barrel and Brent was last at $52.58, down 0.23 per cent on the day. Inflation has risen 1.7 percent over the past 12 months, suggesting that inflation pressures remain well under control.

"Giroud? He's fantastic", Wenger said of the France global, who usually started on the bench last season and had been linked with a move away from The Emirates. "Giroud in his prime is at the top of his game".

"He doesn't want to leave and I'm happy he wants to stay".

"I felt that to lose tonight would have been bad for us because we had such good preparation and to sit there in the morning and think we had lost at home would have been awful", he said.

"I love the man and the player", said Wenger. "He did very well on the left when we moved him".

"Going forward and character wise we have been great", said a relieved Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who will be seeking a first league title since 2004 after being handed another two years in charge.

"We went for a win and we deservedly earned it". I'm disappointed with the handball in the build up, but once the corner's given you have to defend it better.
