Hizbul Mujahideen Operational Commander Killed During Encounter In Kashmir's Shopian

Militants fired at the approaching security personnel, wounding five Army personnel, two of whom later died. Three others, including a captain, have been injured, the police said. He said Hizbul Commander Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi was a resident of Chadoora in Budgam district and first joined militancy in year 1997 after crossing over to other side of the Line of Control.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that: "Hizb operational commander Yasin Yatoo was among the three militants who were killed during the gunfight at Awneera in Shopian". Itoo was held responsible for instigating the violence in the Valley after the killing of militant Burhan Wani a year ago.
The Indian armed forces registered yet another success in their fight against terrorism when a top Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in encounter. The operation against the terrorists continued for around 20 hours.
Injured soldiers were rushed to the 92 Base Hospital of the Army for treatment, where two of them died. During the operations, 2 Army jawans were martyred and 3 jawans were injured.
The operation began after security forces received inputs that terrorists are present in Awneera village of Zainapora area of the district. Two of them later succumbed to injuries.
Rising Kashmir has learnt that dozen of people have also sustained pellet injuries during the overnight clashes wth the state government forces. Fearing large scale protests against the killings, the authorities in South Kashmir, have suspended internet services in Shopian and Kulgam to prevent spreading of information about the encounter.
In north Kashmir, suspected militants opened fire after police and army started a cordon and search operation at Wahab Parray Mohalla in Hajin area of Bandipora district. A cordon was laid to ensure Itoo has no escape plan.
