The Alor Setar High Court has rejected an application by lawyers for Penang state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh against a five-day remand order.

Lawyers R.S.N Rayer and Ramkarpal Singh represented Phee, while Dev Kumaraendran acted for the father and son.

Earlier, Dev told reporters that the magistrate in Penang did not hear their submissions before setting the remand order.

At a press conference later after the verdict, Ramkarpal said he was disappointed with the outcome and would be filing the same application at the Penang High Court tomorrow.

Dr Norlela said she was also accused of raising the issue at a time when a general election was due soon, stating she had raised the issue after many villagers had complained about the factory.

High Court Judge Datuk Hashim Hamzah also declined to do so for the remand orders against the 35-year-old director and 70-year-old manager of the factory.

Having gone just four innings while issuing five free passes in his last start, it's clear that this issue has come up just recently for Tanaka.

"We will be at the Penang High Court to file the same application to ask that the remand order be set aside and to release Phee and the two others", he added.

On Sunday noon, MACC officers raided the service centre of Phee, who is also Sungai Puyu assemblyman, in Butterworth.

On Thursday, MACC officers seized documents related to the Kampung Sungai Lembu factory from the Seberang Prai Municipal Council.

Phee was detained Friday after the MACC and several agencies raided a 15-year-old illegal carbon filter factory in Kampung Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam, following complaints from residents about pollution.

Phee's office on Level 53, Komtar was also raided by MACC officers. The factory was also allegedly operating illegally on agriculture land.
