The law enforcement agency says no one on the ground was hurt.

Kessler, a local blogger and activist, said in an interview Saturday evening that whoever drove a vehicle into a group of counter-protesters "did the wrong thing".

A counter-protester was killed when a grey Dodge Challenger plowed into a crowd, and two Virginia State Police officers were killed when their helicopter crashed later in the day.

Sessions said the federal investigation "will have the full support of the Department of Justice".

On Saturday, Charlottesville saw a major rally of far-right nationalists dubbed "Unite the Right" which subsequently led to violent clashes between the demonstrators and counter protesters.

In some responses, politicians called on President Trump to make a more direct statement against white nationalism after he criticized what he said was "hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides".

"I have a message to all the white supremacists and the Nazis who came into Charlottesville today", the Democrat told reporters at a news conference at City Hall. The driver, identified as James Alex Fields, Jr., is being charged with second degree murder and multiple other felony counts.

Tropical Depression No. 8 Expected To Become Tropical Storm

The latter comment came shortly after news broke that one person had been killed and 19 injured when a auto plowed into a large crowd of anti-racist protesters.

"So, after decades of White Americans being targeted for discriminated and anti-White hatred, we come together as a people, and you attack us?" he wrote. Corinne Geller, a Virignia State Police spokeswoman, says the pilot and a passenger were killed in the crash Saturday afternoon.

"Stop the hate speech", McAuliffe said.

"Go home", he said.

Right-wing blogger Jason Kessler organized Saturday's rally to protest the city's decision to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Mentioning that the current unfolding of events in Virginia is not linked to his presidency, Trump said, "It has been going on for a long time in our country - not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama".
