Mets reportedly concerned Steven Matz dealing with arthritic pitching elbow

Matz missed the first two months of this season with an elbow injury but the issue was never fully resolved, Carig reports, and Matz skipped "bullpen sessions to keep pitching through the pain".

While Collins did not list a specific injury, New York Daily News reported the club fears Matz is dealing with an arthritic left elbow. That isn't an uncommon practice in baseball, and Matz received the same injections a year ago.

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, Matz may require elbow surgery to fix a nerve issue similar to the one that felled Jacob deGrom last season. So that should bring hope to Matz for his future, even if he has to endure season-ending surgery.

Matz was diagnosed Monday with irritation of the ulnar nerve in his left elbow, the team said.

DPRK slams South Korean president for north policy
Combative rhetoric between the nations spiked after Pyongyang tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) last month. Leader Kim Jong-Un last week delayed the Guam strike plan, but warned it could go ahead depending on Washington's next move.

The 26-year-old Matz had Tommy John surgery early in his pro career.

Matz, who received a shot that necessitates him resting for at least 48 hours, has been scratched from his Tuesday start against the Diamondbacks and is likely to be placed on the disabled list, according to manager Terry Collins.

He began the season on the disabled list and has been struggling since his return, going 2-7 with a 6.08 ERA. Over that stretch he is 0-6 with a 10.19 ERA and opponents are hitting.385 against him with seven homers.
