Paris Considers eSports for 2024 Olympic Games

  • Video game players compete against one another in an esports tournament at Caesars casino in Atlantic City in March

Growing up, playing video games was all about bragging rights.

"We are the only city that has two successful Olympics - that's what I look to", Councilman Gil Cedillo said, referring to previous L.A. Games in 1984 and 1932.

While eSports, or competitive video gaming, has now been a thing for some time, it's rather swift rise in stature is still sprinting past milestones.

In an interview with the "Associated Press," Tony Estanguet told them he is going to hold talks with representatives from eSports and the (IOC). Let's look at it. Let's meet them. This past April, the Olympic Council of Asia announced the first medal event for esports will unfold at the 2022 Asian Games. "Let's try if we can find some bridges". The idea could be a possibility in the near future, as Paris mulls esports as an addition to the 2024 Olympic games.

Introducing eSports would nearly certainly help make the Olympics more relevant to younger generations-a tick in Estanguet's pro column. The official estimated that to keep their relevance today and to interest young people, the Olympic Games should follow the trends: integrating esports would go in this direction.

Trump better president than Obama
Ben Rhodes, a former deputy national security adviser in the Obama administration, tweeted back at Trump on Wednesday morning. It is not the first time Trump has attempted to portray himself as being more popular than Obama.

Estanguet added: "I don't want to say "no" from the beginning". "I think it's interesting to interact with the International Olympic Committee, with them, the esports family, to better understand what the process is and why it is such a success".

Paris is set to be named as the host for the 2024 Games at an International Olympic Committee meeting in Lima, Peru in September, with a competing bid from Los Angeles now expected to shift to the 2028 Games.

It's not about Olympics, " said Estanguet.

While the Paris bid committee seems to have an open mind when it comes to eSports, the IOC's president, Thomas Bach, seems a little more cynical. But we won't know if eSports will be in the branches until after the Tokyo Games, that is 2020. The biggest games at popular esports events, however, include League of Legends, Call of Duty, Dota 2 and Federation Internationale de Football Association are among the most popular games in competition.
