Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is likely to arrive in Karachi on Saturday (today).

Prime Minister Abbasi is accompanied by Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and Governor Mohammad Zubair welcomed him, reports the Dawn. Prime Minister Abbasi assured the governor that the federal government would continue to cooperate with the Sindh government in development projects.

The premier will visit the Quaid's mausoleum, ahead of the seventieth independence day. He also recorded his impressions in the visitor's book.

Briefing media about his engagements in the city, the prime minister said he had offered Fateha at the Mazar-e-Quaid, met the Sindh governor, chaired a meeting on law and order situation, interacted with the businessmen, besides meeting delegations of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Dr Farooq Sattar held a detailed discussion on Karachi's situation with the PM. The MQM leaders during the meeting demanded that their workers in custody be released and their sealed offices opened.

PM Abbasi said he would have visited Karachi even if MQM had not voted for him in the PM elections, as Karachi is the hub of Pakistan's economy, told MQM-Pakistan head.

On the occasion, the prime minister also announced Rs5 billion for various development schemes in Hyderabad. He also discussed development package for Karachi being implemented by the federal government.

Speaking about problems being faced by traders, the prime minister said that their difficulties would be resolved on priority basis.
