Prince Frederik refused entry to Brisbane bar

  • Crown Prince Frederik was in Queensland for a regatta but Princess Mary reportedly did not make the trip

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik was denied entry into an upmarket Brisbane bar after he wasn't recognised by staff, and suffered the nightmarish fallout of the Australian states' tough new ID laws.

"More than 1.4 million IDs have been scanned since the laws were introduced in July and more than 70 violent offenders stopped from entering licensed venues as a result", she said.

Jade Buddha co-owner Phil Hogan told ABC radio the royal encounter in Brisbane was embarrassing for all involved and particularly hard for his security staff. However, because they did not have proper ID, they were not allowed to come inside.

"The security guys were doing all the talking, but to be fair to the Prince he seemed to be a very nice guy."

They'd gotten this inside 15 minutes, at around midnight on a Friday.

After a Google search of the Prince, confirmation the officers were actually police and a phone call to liquor licensing, everyone was allowed in. We always thought it was going to be a nightmare, " Mr Hogan said.

"The prince obviously did not take great offence to this, as he returned a short time later and was granted entry".

War Games to Begin as US, South Korea Brace for North's Fury
Jeong Kyeong-doo (L), chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), enters a war game room in Seoul together with Gen. North Korea's state newspaper, Rodong Sinmun , directly attacked China as a false ally in a May editorial.

"I said to my brother, 'If we do let him in, we're breaking the law and we're breaking the law in front of 5 or 6 coppers".

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath defended the legislation in parliament on Tuesday after coming under fire from the opposition.

Australia's draconian liquor laws are sure to now attract worldwide attention after Danish Crown Prince Frederik was turned away from a Brisbane bar. "The government is not aware of any complaints made by the prince or his protection unit". "The fact is this has not caused a diplomatic incident as some would have you believed". Are you a fan of Prince Frederik?

The introduction of I.D. scanners has been on the table for years, with many arguing that their introduction would create a nightmare in terms of logistics and privacy, and as Fairfax notes, Brisbane venues have reported having to turn away everyone from respected foreign business people to backpackers and tourists - often in large numbers and causing significant losses to the venue owners.

But Mr Lane said knocking back a prince trumped his dozen French winemakers, however it also highlighted an inconsistency in the laws.

Brett Fraser from Brisbane Marketing said it was an ongoing issue.
