South Korea's finance ministry said Friday that it will take swift and firm action as the heightening geopolitical tension sparked by the latest North Korean provocations may expand market volatility.

As is customary, the man is being questioned to find out why he chose to enter South Korea, which offers refuge to defectors from the North subject to a period of acclimatization.

"An official from the North Korean side came out to meet him, but there was no conversation" between the two sides, a unification ministry official said, according to News 1.

The northern resident was sent home via the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom, which sits in the demilitarized zone that separates the two countries.

But the ministry also denied, at a Friday briefing, Pyongyang's claim Seoul has forced one dozen North Korean women to marry in the South.

Mercosur Condemns Trump's Comments On Venezuela
While Trump raised the specter of military intervention, his top national security aides have downplayed that possibility. As to US military action against Venezuela , the Pentagon said it had not received any such orders from the White House.

As the rhetoric continues to pick up around North Korea, the talk of military options, or worse the "military solution" increasingly appears to center around the conceit that there is some possibility for a limited war, or some other way that the United States could make a quick attack on North Korea and fix everything militarily.

The man in his 20s was rescued on Gyodong Island near the Yellow Sea border at around 1 a.m. local time (1700GMT), local news agency Yonhap reported, citing the JCS.

Not all North Koreans who drift to the South, however, wish to return.

The defection comes more than a month after a flurry of North Korea military desertions. The soldier reportedly used blocks of Styrofoam as floats for his back and shoulders to survive the risky swim.

At least one of the soldiers defected after hearing South Korean loudspeaker broadcasts at the border.
