Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake resigned from his ministerial portfolio on Thursday amid allegations that he was involved in a corruption scandal.

MP Ravi Karunanayake has not sought an interim injunction from Supreme Court against arrest like some in the previous regime, the Premier pointed out.

Minister Karunanayake told the Parliament that though he was not responsible for the allegations levelled against him he was resigning in order to protect the government."I never made use of my position to make money", he said.

"I am proud of creating such a situation in the country", the Premier said.

Mahendran was accused of misconduct surrounding alleged favours for his son-in-law, Arjun Aloysius, a bond dealer. His appointment, it is learnt, will be marred by Marapana's resignation in 2015 as a minister over the Avant Garde statement in Parliament.
