  • The International Main Event Day 5 Recap

The day began as EU-based Team Liquid played in the third round of the lower bracket against Russian Team Empire.

A team once considered to be one of the best, North Americans Evil Geniuses have performed poorly in this year's global, not winning a single match: being beaten by both Newbee and Russian team Team Empire early in the tournament - both ending in a 2-0 loss. Team Liquid has won the global e-sports tournament and was rewarded with a grand prize of $10.7 million. The team Liquid was the only surviving team left after four Chinese Dota 2 teams made their exit from the tournament by acquiring the sixth position. Overall, 18 teams take home winnings, but only Team Liquid was able to claim The Aegis, The International 7's trophy. VP sought to reassert themselves after losing to the tournament's odds-on favorites LGD.FY in the upper bracket earlier in the week, and the resulting set yielded one of the longest matches in competitive Dota 2history at 104 minutes. From there, team Liquid went ahead by defeating Team Secret, Team, Virtus Pro and other two Chinese teams.
