  • Two US soldiers killed, five wounded in internal incident

Two American soldiers have been killed and five more wounded during an operation in northern Iraq.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that five other troopers also sustained injuries in the Sunday incident، without identifying the soldiers or providing more details regarding the circumstance of the deadly event. The towns include Tal Afar, about 65 kilometres west of Mosul, where Iraqi troops and militiamen have been gathering ahead of what is expected to be the next major offensive in the campaign against the Islamic State.

"The entire counter-ISIS Coalition sends our deepest condolences to these heroes' families, friends and teammates", said Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, said in a statement.

Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League last season to mask over their Premier League disappointment. West Ham may struggle on Sunday but Hernandez will have a point to prove against his former club.

"Remember Americans serving on front lines against ISIS terrorists". The troops are mainly providing training and logistic support to the Iraqi forces, in addition to airstrikes by a US -led global coalition. Although residents celebrated the extremists being chased out of the city, many of their neighborhoods lay in ruins while thousands of civilians had been killed and over 1 million people displaced.

A separate statement released by the Islamic State on Sunday, apparently referring to the same incident, said it had carried out a rocket attack on USA positions east of the Iraqi city of Tal Afar that the group claimed killed four American soldiers and injured six.

According to Stars & Stripes, the USA -led coalition in Iraq is now in the process of taking the town of Tal Afar, which is now held by Islamic State.
