  • The seven White Helmets were killed at close range early on Saturday morning

"7 SCD volunteers were killed by unknown armed men in Sarmin SCD center, Idlib, in the morning", the White Helmets said.

A Syrian paramedic group active in opposition-controlled areas says gunmen have stormed one of its offices in northwestern Syria killing seven of its members and stealing two vehicles and other equipment.

Volunteers of the famed rescue service were shot dead during an attack on their office in the town of Sarmin.

.

Founder of the White Helmets, Raed al-Saleh, also mourned the volunteers, who were all shot in the head execution-style, the Telegraph reported.

Union Minister Patel present at the press conference said that the central government is ready to give full support to the state. What is shocking to know is that the oxygen supply department in the hospital had already warned about shortage.

The group also known as the Syrian Civil Defense called for northern Syrian checkpoints to detain any vehicles bearing the White Helmets logo that were not verified.

No party claimed responsibility for the operation but Abu Ali Abdulwahab from the Army of Islam said that ISIS and its allies are most probably behind this crime - in his statement to Asharq Al-Awsat, he noted that Sarmin was the capital of ISIS when the extremist group was present in Idlib. The latter group had been known as Jabhat al-Nusra before renouncing its ties to al Qaeda.

After the Syrian government - with the help of Russian air power - regained control of the key city of Aleppo a year ago, masses of opposition rebels were bussed to Idlib as part of a people-swap agreement. The White Helmets were nominated for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize and the subject of a Netflix documentary.
