Yuvraj Singh dropped, Manish Pandey back for ODIs, T20I

Veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh was on Sunday excluded from the Indian squad that will face Sri Lanka in a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series and a lone Twenty20 International.

Spin duo Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, and pacers Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav were rested keeping the side's tight schedule in mind.

From India's previous ODI assignment, the tour of the West Indies in June-July, the other players to be dropped are the 19-year-old Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik. Manish Pandey, who had a great triangular series in South Africa has been rewarded for his performance.

Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur have also been called upon in the absence of the prime bowlers.

Talented Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey, who recently led the India A squad to a tri-series win in South Africa, made a comeback to the team.

The first ODI will be played in Dambulla on August 20, while the final one will take place on September 3 in Colombo, where the teams will then play the sole T20I on September 6.

India squad Virat Kohli (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma (vice-capt), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur. Of the 150 they have played, 83 went in favour of India while in Sri Lanka, they are marginally behind the hosts, winning 23 of the 57 matches played.
