  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. quotes JFK, says Americans have right to 'peaceful protests'

"All Americans (are) granted rights (to) peaceful protests", Earnhardt tweeted.

The driver, who is retiring at the end of this season, added a quote from John F. Kennedy that reads "those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable".

"Anybody that won't stand up for the anthem ought to be out of the country", he said.

Indeed, team owner and legendary driver Richard Petty said he would go as far as firing anyone on his team who refused to stand for the anthem.

Trump, though, has also tried to make standing during the anthem about respect for the military.

On Monday, NASCAR released a statement in which it said it respects the national anthem and that it's "always been a hallmark of our pre-race events".

Addendum: Perhaps NASCAR's owners figure, as Peter Ingemi wrote this weekend, that their fan base isn't all that keen on having "a bunch of rich athletes talking about how oppressed they are by the country that made them rich". "Thanks to the sacrifices of many, we live in a country of unparalleled freedoms and countless liberties, including the right to peacefully express one's opinion".

United Kingdom government has no plans for Brexit
The UK and Ireland historically voted in similar ways on important issues regarding trade and openness, agriculture and tax. In other words, Britain can not have its cake and eat it: Norway-style big benefits can not come at Canada-style low costs.

Trump tweeted that he was proud of NASCAR after reading these comments.

Richard Childress, the longtime team owner of the legendary driver Dale Earnhardt, was clear about his views on protesting the national anthem.

Trump seemed more supportive of his friend than of the protesters on Monday when he told reporters "I want him to do what he wants to do". "Period", team owner and retired driver Richard Petty said at the ISM Connect 300 in New Hampshire.

It was the fourth day in a row that Trump has gone after players who have bent on one knee during the anthem, in a protest of racial injustice, and the National Football League officials and team owners who have shown support in solidarity.

Veteran motorsports owner Chip Ganassi said he agreed with "Mike Tomlin's answer", to the anthem controversy. It's just a big deal for us and to honor America.

NASCAR's decision was in direct contrast to the NFL, NBA, and other stick-and-ball sports who spurred protests both on and off the field Sunday.
