Davis Cup: Australia's Nick Kyrgios wins to level semi-final v Belgium

  • Lucas Pouille and Jo Wilfried Tsonga will lead the French in their opening two singles rubbers

Kyrgios and Australia have their hands full this weekend when they face Belgium in Brussels. Even if you're turned off by him, his thoughts on what he'd like to achieve in life will make you reconsider.

"We are sufficiently intelligent to know that it's going to be a hard match", the 1983 French Open victor said.

"Davis Cup is one of the most important events that I can play", said the No. 20-ranked Kygrios ahead of Australia's first away match this year.

"To take home the trophy would be probably a dream come true for me".

"I know that and there's no point trying to convince anyone otherwise".

It kept me away from her.

The non-participation of household names is evident in the France-Serbia tie, with the French without injured Gael Monfils, while Serbia are missing Novak Djokovic, who will not play again until January due to an elbow injury and the birth of his second child.

In April, Kyrgios, nearly singlehandedly, led Australia past Team USA in the World Group quarter-final of the 2017 Davis Cup. Whoever was going to win that one was going to turn it all around.

"He has played against and beaten the best players and will be a key man for us".

Lajovic took victory on a fifth match point.

Large numbers of police, ambulances, and fire trucks are in the area, which has been cordoned off by armed police officers. It is also being reported that people were initially told not to leave the station before an evacuation took place.

There was no such drama in the second rubber as top-ranked Frenchman Tsonga had little trouble racing past world no 95 Djere with a routine 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 6-3 victory.

"He did everything we asked of him and a lot more". France captain Yannick Noah was critical of his own performance.

"I'm just a massive fan of team sports and that's probably the closest thing we've got in tennis. When I was informed it was one of the greatest feelings I could have in this sport", Millman said. "I'll have to improve our communication for the next rubber".

Australia's Nick Kyrgios during a practice session prior to the Davis Cup World Group semi-final in Brussels.

He corrected the wobble by breaking in the sixth game of the decider and a backhand return on his first match point forced Monteiro into a wild forehand that ballooned long.

Kyrgios fired 34 aces and 41 winners in the win lasting more than three-and-a-half hours.

"He put me under real pressure and I had to dig in at times".

"I love to win". I obviously had a very disappointing (US Open).

"The biggest thing for Nick was to stay in the moment", Hewitt said.

"We have full belief in that he can do a job for us". Switzerland are without Roger Federer or Stan Wawrinka in a tie with Belarus, Canada minus injured Milos Raonic host India, Germany face Portugal, the Czech Republic clash with the Netherlands, and Russian Federation play Hungary.
