The blast occurred at Parsons Green Tube Station shortly after 8 a.m. local time, According to Mark Rowley, Assistant Commissioner for London's Metropolitan Police Service.

London's Metro newspaper initially reported that the blast left some passengers with facial burns.

According to NBCNews.com, a home-made bomb exploded inside a train auto at Parsons Green underground station in West London at around 8.20 a.m. local time.

Pictures shared on social media showed embers burning from a white bucket which had been wrapped in a plastic shopping bag.

Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts were with the victims.

"At present we are aware of a number of people who have suffered injuries", the police said in a statement.

It is also being reported that people were initially told not to leave the station before an evacuation took place.

An eyewitness told Reuters that flames engulfed one carriage and raced along the train enroute to Parsons Green, forcing passengers to trample others as they rushed for an exit.
