Gaga mentioned a week ago that she was about to take a break.

Rio de Janeiro (AFP) - Lady Gaga said Thursday she had been hospitalized in "severe pain" and was pulling out of Brazil's Rock in Rio festival, which she was due to headline this weekend.

The singer has been hospitalised days after revealing she suffers from chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia, and now she has pulled out of her South American festival gig on Friday.

Lady Gaga also posted a photo on Instagram with an IV in her arm. "I would do anything 4 u but I have to take care of my body right now", she tweeted. I promise you I'll come back soon to sing before you. "I'm so sorry, and I love you so much".

"I was taken to the hospital its not simply hip pain or wear and tear from tour, I'm in severe pain", the 31-year-old singer wrote on Twitter. "I'm in good hands w/ (with) the very best doctors". An illness against which her fans could see her fight courageously in the documentary about her life for Netflix, Five Foot Two.

"It doesn't mean I don't have some things up my sleeve", she joked. The disease affects an estimated five million in the United States, majority women.

Her hospitalization comes on the heels of her announcement that she has fibromyalgia. You occupy a special place in my heart.

The pain is typically accompanied by extreme fatigue, mood, memory and sleep problems.

"It's hard", Gaga reportedly said.

Gaga added that she believed music had the power to help those who are suffering.

"I hope that people watching it that struggle with chronic pain know they are not alone", she said of the film.

Rock in Rio, which starts Friday, is to feature Maroon 5, Fergie, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N' Roses.
