"Settle for More" seemed to be a side of Kelly the host meant to lean into elsewhere during her program, which featured some of the very people mentioned in her New York Times bestseller. The ratings were poor, the show was sloppily put together, and the interviews inspired nothing but controversy. Fans on social media let Megyn Kelly have it on Twitter during the premiere episode of "Megyn Kelly TODAY".

Megyn Kelly made her debut as an NBC morning TV host on Monday with the declaration that she's "kind of done with politics for now".

The Post review called the show a "Bride of Frankenstein" hodgepodge of various other programs, with Kelly interviewing guests "nervously" and "awkwardly".

"Here's to the newest addition of our family, here's to many happy mornings, here's to Megyn Kelly Today", Lauer said, raising his glass.

Trump does not want nuclear war with N. Korea: Mnuchin
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin weighed in Sunday with his interpretation of the 1st Amendment and where it applies. The assurance comes as Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have been engaged in an escalating war of words.

It's also a change from her more serious Sunday night newsmagazine program, on which her interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones attracted controversy and criticism.

It's odd to go from a program in which you interview world leaders such as Vladimir Putin - to a morning show with a cheering audience where you wave off political stories within the first few seconds. Then she said she wanted the show to be apolitical and for the show to be a place where viewers can be gifted with "a smile, sometimes a tear, and maybe some hope to start your day". "But how? Where? What?" she said, giving a brief overview of her career as a lawyer and TV anchor but omitted any mention of Fox News Channel, the network she left in January.

While Kelly comes from a hard news background from her time at Fox News, the tone of her new show, at least early on, feels similar to the light, upbeat vibe of the hour she replaced with elements of "Ellen" and "Live with Kelly and Ryan" thrown in. "It's everywhere, and it's gotten so dark, and I'm just like, over [it]".
