The best thing you can do is disable your Bluetooth when you are not using it or keep it off until an update is issued on your device to play it safe. They only need the device's Bluetooth to be turned on. Also, no action from a user is necessary to trigger the attack.

Armis discovered eight vulnerabilities of which it classified four as critical. While there is no mention if they have been used in the wild, the vulnerabilities are fully operational.

Currently, all Windows devices running Vista or later, all Linux devices running BlueZ or Tizen 3.3-rc1, all Android devices, and all versions of iOS running iOS 9.x or earlier are affected. iOS 10 and later devices from Apple are not affected.

Both the Australian and United States governments have released warnings about a new vulnerability known as BlueBorne, which leaves millions of mobile phones, computers and IoT devices exposed to hackers. Consumers should look at the devices they won and contact the vendors to see if they are vulnerable.

"This makes BlueBorne one of the most broad potential attacks found in recent years, and allows an attacker to strike completely undetected", they warned.

Apple fans will be pleased to know current versions of iOS are not vulnerable.

News has broken that Armis has identified a new airborne cyber threat, "BlueBorne", that exposes nearly every device to remote attack.

Apple iPhone 8 and the truth behind their prices
The iPhone X looks to have a killer camera, with new upgrades for excellent "bokeh", or blurring in the background of photos. When Samsung has Galaxy 8 and Note 8 in their box an iPhone 7S or 7S Plus wouldn't be equivalent.

"BlueBourne is a disturbing new attack on nearly every computer, smartphone, and tablet. While the vulnerability itself is concerning, the real threat is most alarming: running applications and connecting to websites to execute more attacks, an issue that can only be addressed if every application, every website has a unique machine identity". Without this - the attacks as demonstrated with BlueBourne can run easily.

If exploited, the vulnerabilities can enable hackers to take over the devices or hijack their Internet connection.

"When exploits like these are found on technology that is integrated into nearly every device we use, it's a real concern".

And if you're uncertain whether your device has been patched, it may be a good idea to turn Bluetooth off for awhile.

The way BlueBorne works, it constantly scans for devices that have Bluetooth on, and when it finds one that has relevant vulnerabilities, it can hack into the device exceptionally quickly.

"For a while, Bluetooth vulnerabilities had died down as the industry responded and fixed known exploits, but this incident may be the tip of the iceberg once again".
