  • Paul Collingwood is relishing the opportunity of playing for World XI at the age of 41

The series marks the return of global cricket to the country eight years after an attack on the Sri Lankan team bus.

The landmark Independence Cup series between Pakistan and World XI ended with the hosts winning the three-T20I contests by 2-1.

But the World XI tour seems to have finally changed the game for Pakistan.

Du Plessis (13) was run out by a sharp piece of work by Shadab Khan whose direct hit found the skipper short of his ground despite a despairing dive.

During all three matches, the fans expressed endless love for the visiting players, showing how eagerly they were waiting for the return of cricket in Pakistan. Thank everyone for the opportunity for coming here.

The former Kiwi all-rounder expected more worldwide teams to travel to Pakistan if proper security arrangements are kept in place.

Pakistan Has to Work to Draw Big Teams Back: ICC Chief
Shoaib Malik smashed a 20-ball 38 with two sixes and four boundaries to give the final touches to the innings. The World XI left out Darren Sammy and Grant Elliott for Paul Collingwood and Samuel Badree.

Hashim Amla hit an unbeaten 55-ball 72 while Thisara Perera ransacked 47* off 19 as the visitors chased down 175 on the penultimate ball. No more wickets fell during the rest of the match but it was sublime death-bowling from Hasan Ali and Rumman Raees, conceding only 10 runs from both the overs.

Ahmed Shehzad was the standout performer with a brilliant knock of 89 off just 55 balls during the third and final Twenty20 global match. Azam, dropped on 22 by South African Imran Tahir at fine leg, also missed his second half century of the series when he holed out after scoring 48 off 31 balls with five boundaries.

No top Test playing nation has visited Pakistan due to security concerns since the deadly attack on the Sri Lankan team in which at least six Pakistani policemen were killed.

All-rounder Shoaib Malik was also uncertain for the decider after picking a finger injury during Wednesday's game but team sources have confirmed that he will play.

According to some media reports, the PCB is spending US$2.5-3 million for staging the three-match Independence Cup against World XI.

Afridi was the first to have a round of the stadium and while passing through different enclosures a diehard crowd gave him standing ovation.
