  • Ryanair set to cancel dozens of flights a day

Ryanair's head of communications, Robin Kiely said: "We will be doing our utmost to arrange alternative flights and/or full refunds".

The Irish low-priced airline said it would scrap 40 to 50 flights daily - "less than two percent" of its flying programme - to address problems caused by air traffic control (ATC (Shenzhen: 002227.SZ - news) ) delays and strikes, weather disruption and a change in the holiday schedules of pilots and cabin crews.

However, travellers who had booked flights with Ryanair were furious at being left without transport.

However, passengers have taken to social media to express their anger, with some of them left stranded overseas.

These problems "severely reduced our on-time performance over the past two weeks to under 80 percent", he said.

'Cancellation notices for flights cancelled up to and including Wednesday 20 September have been sent to affected customers and we will continue to send regular updates and post flight information on our website.

It said the 40 to 50 flight cancellations each day accounted for less than 2% of its 2,500 daily flights and it would create additional standby aircraft to help restore punctuality.

The new uniforms will be worn for the first time on November 24, when the team takes on the Charlotte Hornets in Cleveland. These black jerseys will be available for $110 as a replica Swingman jersey or $200 as an Authentic jersey.

As well as air traffic control strikes and weather disruption, the airline said the decision was taken to meet a requirement for holiday time for its crews following the introduction of a new roster structure as required by regulators.

"If you have been affected by the Ryanair programme of flight cancellations you are entitled to a choice of refund or rerouting".

Flights between Dinard airport and Stansted, Dublin and Paris Beauvais, and Stansted and Nice are among the 80 flights affected on Saturday, September 16. Compensation may also be payable depending on the notice period Ryanair has given you.

Olivia Poole said her flight on Sunday was cancelled "with no explanation".

The move is set to affect more than 285,000 passengers, who will be offered alternative flights or refunds.

Earlier: The travel plans of hundreds of Irish passengers have been hit by the cancellation of an estimated 2,000 Ryanair flights.
