Park Sung Hyun led the Evian Championship on Friday, just 24 hours after Thursday's play was wiped out by heavy rain and fierce winds with the South Korean star stranded at six over after six holes. "If you are Ryu you have to feel the injustice that all your hard work was wasted and Park's poor play was completely wiped away".

Korda is making her first start since withdrawing after the first round of the Ricoh Women's British Open with a left forearm injury, which caused her to miss the Solheim Cup. "It was fun, and it's great to see the fans kind of join us as we went through to the first hole".

Leading 2017 LPGA money victor Sung Hyun Park shot an eight-under 63 in the first round of the Evian Championship on Friday at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France, to take the solo lead in the final major of the LPGA season.

That meant a 14-shot turnaround in fortunes for the No. 3-ranked South Korean.

With seven birdies and a chip-in eagle at the 13th, Park led by two shots from Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn with Australian Katherine Kirk, Sweden's Anna Nordqvist on 66.

"I wish it wasn't scrapped, but welcome to golf", Korda said.

With the prestigious event now being contested over 54 holes, the cut will take place after today's second round.

"I was able to forget yesterday and just focus on today".

That self-assurance has already earned her two victories in her rookie season, including what will likely be the first of many majors with her win in July at the U.S. Women's Open. Jessica Korda of the United States and Women's British Open victor In-Kyung Kim were a further shot back on 4 under. In the toughest of Thursday's weather conditions, Korda sat atop the leaderboard at two-under par with So Yeon Ryu, before play was canceled later that day.

Another player to seize their second chance in cool sunshine on Friday was Ai Miyazato of Japan, playing her final event before retiring.

Defending champion Chun In-gee was seven shots back after mixing four birdies with three bogeys for a one-under-par 70.

"Right now, nothing to lose, and no fear and just feel joy of my game, and that's definitely helping", Miyazato said about her day.

Park was strong on the front nine, but she seemed to get better as the round went on, playing her final nine holes at six-under. With a late tee time on Thursday, Jutanugarn never had to hit a shot, but instead enjoyed the day off and was well rested for Friday's round.
