The comments follow North Korea's test Tuesday of its Hwasong-12 missile that flew over northern Japan before crashing 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) east of Hokkaido's Cape Erimo.

Kono was quoted as telling Wang that North Korea's action posed "an unprecedented, serious and grave threat" to security and was "totally unacceptable".

The requested budget for 2018 would amount to 5.26 trillion yen (around $48 billion) and represents a 2.5 percent increase from past year. The ministry, though, did not specify how much money would be needed for that. -South Korea war games and called for his military to conduct more ballistic missile launches targeting the Pacific Ocean.

An upgraded version of the current Patriot Advanced Capability-3 anti-missile system would also be bought, allowing for greater ability to down cruise missiles and jets.

United Kingdom correspondent Rod Liddle says the country is on edge.

The move has been questioned by China, however, which Tokyo sees as another security concern.

Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Ren Guoqiang told reporters that all parties should exercise restraint and avoid words and actions that escalate tension.

The Defense Ministry's budget request will now go to the Finance Ministry for further scrutiny before it's submitted to Parliament for approval.

If approved, the budget request - which represents a 2.5-percent increase from a year ago - would represent the sixth straight annual defense spending increase for Japan.

May and Abe will agree a joint declaration on security cooperation, including plans for British soldiers to take part in military exercises on Japanese soil and for collaboration to address the threat of cyber and militant attacks when Japan hosts the Olympics in 2020, Reuters reported.

In a joint declaration by visiting British Prime Minster Theresa May and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the two countries confirmed that they will work quickly to form a "new economic partnership" as Britain exits the EU. Following the launch, Tokyo and Seoul agreed to ramp up "maximum" pressure on Pyongyang by seeking tougher sanctions.

"We are working closely with the fleet to develop this important new capability, and this was a key milestone in giving our Aegis BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense) ships an enhanced capability to defeat ballistic missiles in their terminal phase, ' said agency director Lieutenant General Sam Greaves in a statement, without mentioning North Korea". Trump also responded to the launch by saying that "all options are on the table".

The message made it clear that Trump isn't planning to rely on diplomacy when it comes to North Korea. It is a very unsafe game. France's foreign minister warned today that North Korea could have the capacity to deliver a nuclear strike on the United States and even Europe "within months".

Han was referring to the joint US-South Korean drills, the most recent of which began last week.

Following the launch, China urged all sides to avoid further provocations, while warning that tensions on the Korean Peninsula had reached "tipping point" and were "approaching a crisis".

One of the new stamps depicts North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un surrounded by jubilant militarymen who conducted the test launch, along with an image of the rocket taking flight. The plan has been rejected by Washington. We're allowed to do it (exercises).

The annual exercises were scheduled to go for 10 days starting on August 21 with 25,000 USA troops involved.
