  • Airtel partners with Karbonn to roll out 4G enabled feature phone; here's how much it costs

The company said that it will be effectively priced near the cost of a feature phone.

All smartphones under the "Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone" initiative will be available at leading mobile stores across the country. The phone initially came to light in July 2017 at Rs 3499, but is being offered at an effective price of Rs 1399 under the new deal.

Needless to say, Airtel has teamed up with Karbonn to launch Karbonn A40 Indian 4G smartphone to counter the JioPhone. Airtel will provide total cash benefit to Rs1,500-Rs500 will be given after 18 months and another Rs1,000 after 36 months. You'd then have to make at least Rs 3000 worth of recharges for the first 18 months to receive a Rs 500 cashback, followed up by another Rs 3000 spread over 18 months to get Rs 1000 as cashback. This takes the total cash benefit to Rs. 1500/-. However, to claim the cash refund benefit, recharges worth Rs 3000 must be done within the first 18 months (to claim the first refund installment of Rs 500) and another Rs 3000 over the next 18 months (to claim the second refund installment of Rs 1000).

In terms of specs, it compares favourably to the JioPhone. It comes with a 4-inch touchscreen display, a 1,400 mAh battery, 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage (expandable to 32GB). Unlike the JioPhone, the Airtel's smartphone comes with dual SIM dual standby support and the user can use other network's SIM alongside the Airtel SIM.

The Karbonn A40 sports a 2-megapixel rear camera and 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

However, the biggest win that Airtel gets here is when it comes to the OS.

US Army chief: 'No risk-free options' on North Korea
More than 1.1 million people serve in North Korea's armed forces, representing approximately 5 percent of its total population. Army's annual meeting in Washington, Mattis warned that he could not say what the future holds for the DPRK.

Telecom company Bharti Airtel has announced a partnership with smartphone manufacturer Karbonn Mobiles.

The answer to that question boils down really to what you want from your affordable 4G phone. If the user manages to continue recharging the device for 36 months, they'll get an additional sum of Rs 1,000. 91mobiles broke the exclusive news last month that the device will be priced below Rs 2,000, and rightly so, as the first device that the telco is offering in partnership with Karbonn will cost you Rs 1,399, albeit with a catch.

This is a comparison between Airtel smartphone and Reliance Jio Phone based on pricing and offers. And it's your call.

During the launch, Raj Pudipeddi, Director - Consumer Business & CMO, Bharti Airtel said, "As the market leader and pioneer of 4G services in India, Airtel's aspiration is to digitally empower every Indian with high speed data access".

"The Google Certified - Karbonn A40 Indian has a full touch screen plus dual SIM slots, and offers complete access to all apps on Google Play Store, including YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp". The device offers a single SIM card slot with 4G LTE and VoLte capability.
