Over on the Amazon careers website, you can now apply for the position of data specialist, to join the dedicated Amazon Echo team right here in Cambridge. While you can call the former as a true "personal" assistant, the latter can never quite be the same, unless obviously you are leaving alone. Google's smart speaker Google Home had received the voice recognition ability back in April.

Once you set up the new feature through the Alexa app, your Echo will be able to offer a personalized experience based on who's speaking. This will let the device cater distinctly for all the members of your home.

Amazon began rolling out the feature to U.S. customers on October 11, but as yet there is no timescale on when the feature will land in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Hyperloop One Receives Investment from Virgin Group, Becomes "Virgin Hyperloop One"
The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but the investment was significant enough that Hyperloop One will now be called Virgin Hyperloop .

Creating a voice profile isn't a hectic task, and Alexa requires just ten phrases to be read aloud by you so as to distinguish your voice from the rest. Choose which Echo device you want to talk to and follow the on-screen instructions to say certain sentences and teach Alexa your voice. Amazon is not far behind, however, launching Voice Profiles for multiple users on its Echo smart speakers.

Voice profiles should also work with third-party Alexa-powered devices, but not the Amazon Tap. Both Google and Amazon have been working to expand the offering of their respective smart speakers. Amazon says that it plans on expanding this functionality to additional services as time goes on, and along with this, Alexa should get better at telling people apart as you use the feature more. Smart speakers also can be connected to smart home appliances such as lighting, thermostats and home security systems, so they can be controlled with spoken commands.
