The North Korean Foreign Minister attended the regular session of the UN General Assembly in September, during which Trump threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea over its weapons programme, including the September 3 nuclear test.

On Tuesday, a South Korean lawmaker said North Korean hackers had reportedly stolen a large cache of military documents from his country, including a wartime contingency plans drawn up by the US and South Korea.

The North Korean authorities were reported to have told one of the delegates that they were preparing the next test launch with a new intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the west coast of the US.

The outlook for their trip is murky as North Korea is not likely to consent to their visit amid heightened tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs. Meanwhile, the Chinese and Russian governments each responded on October 9 to Trump's tweet on October 7 that "only one thing will work" in terms of North Korea policy.

"If the North Koreans in fact accessed the US/South Korean defense plans, this is a treasure trove of information and presents a real danger", said CNN military analyst and retired Lt. Col. Rick Francona.

Local reports earlier suggested that 10 South Koreans staying close to China's border with North Korea had been asked by Chinese officials to leave for their own protection.

"The briefing and discussion focused on a range of options to respond to any form of North Korean aggression or, if necessary, to prevent North Korea from threatening the United States and its allies with nuclear weapons", the White House said.

The minister also lashed out at a tough new package of United Nations sanctions brought in last month.

However, North Korean hackers have been suspected to have previously targeted rival South's power grids with wiper malware.

Ri has previously called Trump "President Evil" and his comments are likely to fuel an escalating war of words between the U.S. president and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

According to the survey by the Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 65 percent of Americans believe the war of words between Trump and the North Korean leadership has made the situation worse.

Two bombers operating out of Andersen Air Force Base in Guam carried out the drills, US Pacific Air Forces said in a statement. There were even concerns that North Korea prepped hundreds of computers for a massive attack on its southern neighbor.

" "Continuous Bomber Presence" missions ensure the USA, along with key allies, have a credible capability to respond to a variety of levels and types of threats throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region", the Air Force statement said.
