  • Facebook doesn't hire journalists: Sheryl Sandberg

In the interview with GeekWire, Lazowska said that Facebook needs to take responsibility for its problems, then dig in and solve them.

Contrary to her claim, Facebook hired former NBC anchor Campbell Brown in January to head up the company's news division and work with other journalists to maximise their use of Facebook's platform.

Business Insider said a firm that is a major source of news and information for people, generates billions in ad revenue and is producing its own original television shows is classified as a media company and Facebook does all of that. While the company prohibits certain content such as hate speech, it does not want to prevent free expression, she said. "When you allow free expression, you allow free expression".

Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Sandberg made the announcement during a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill Thursday, Oct. 12, as part of her tour of Washington. Before her time at Google and later Facebook, she worked for Larry Summers, the treasury secretary under President Bill Clinton.

Wins and Losses for Outgoing Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
If eventually confirmed as victor of the presidential election, George Weah has an onerous task of stepping into Sirleaf's shoes. False reports of Mr Weah's victory have been circulating on social media but it is not clear why Wenger thought he had won.

"Asked if that meant providing data on how ads were targeted to specific groups of people, Sandberg said Facebook was prepared to do so". Sandberg said Facebook would provide additional material to investigators as needed to determine the level of foreign interference in the U.S. election.

Facebook's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has backtracked from calling the idea of Facebook's influence on the election "pretty insane". She told Congressional Black Caucus members the company already had a person in mind for the job, but stopped just short of disclosing a name.

Facebook disclosed last month that it had found some 3,000 politically divisive advertisements believed to have been bought by Russian Federation before and after the presidential campaign.

Facebook, in particular, has earned Lazowska's ire. Rep. Cedric Richmond, a Louisiana Democrat who chairs the caucus, said Sandberg promised to appoint an African-American to the board, a move the caucus and other activists have been pushing for years. Currently, Facebook's eight-member board of directors is all white and 75 per cent male.
