There were many things expected to be announced today but one that we only heard about yesterday but had no idea what it was came as a surprise - Google Clips. "And finally, all the machine learning happens on the device itself, so just like any point-and-shoot, nothing leaves your device until you decide to save and share it".

Clips grabs "motion photos", the new picture format that Google created that includes some brief movement around the frame, like a Live Photo from Apple. It also has a dedicated shutter button if you want to take a quick photo.

Google Clips uses AI and machine learning to recognise key photographic moments (such as people and subject), and automatically focuses on those. You can connect to your phone to check what you've got.

The small, square device, called Google Clips, can be attached to something stationary so it can capture images of everything within its range of view. The camera is trained to capture soundless video of faces and pets that it recognizes.
