Heavy rainfall expected in Bihar, Odisha in coming days

A depression over Gangetic West Bengal has moved west-northwestwards and has intensified into a deep depression.

Odisha, Chattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand is expected to experience heavy rainfall during next 48 to 72 hours. "Due to gusty winds, flight services got disrupted", said Airport Director Atul Dixit.

Heavy showers disrupted normal life in the southern part of West Bengal early on Monday morning. Hence, it is anticipated that the rain intensity is likely to reduce over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

Many schools reopened today after the Durga Puja vacation and students were inconvenienced due to the heavy rain.

Squally wind, reaching a speed of up to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph, is very likely to prevail over Gangetic West Bengal and 3040 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is likely over adjoining areas of Jharkhand till this evening and gradually decrease thereafter, the Met department said in its forecast. Overall, more than 45 flights were affected due to the bad weather.

Eight AI flights scheduled to depart from Kolkata and five slated for arrival had been cancelled till 3.30 pm, the senior official said.
