  • Louisville Cardinals fire Rick Pitino 'with just cause' amid FBI investigation

The University of Louisville Athletic Association has terminated former UofL Basketball Coach Rick Pitino for "just cause".

"In light of the decision by the University of Louisville, adidas has terminated its personal services agreement with Rick Pitino, effective immediately", the statement said. Pitino's attorney, Steve Pence, spoke with reporters following the meeting, during which he provided them with the key documents that make Pitino's case (they can be read in full below), showing Pence and Pitino's counter-argument.

The ULAA resolution stated that Pitino's "actions (and inactions) violate sections 6.1.1, 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 of his employment contract and warrant termination for just cause". "But I vehemently reject its right to do so "for cause.' I have given no 'cause" for termination of my contract".

Already on probation for a scandal involving strippers and escorts entertaining recruits and other players in dorm rooms - Pitino also said previous year he was unaware of those actions - the Louisville basketball program could face severe NCAA penalties depending on the outcome of the current investigation.

Louisville previously placed assistants Kenny Johnson and Jordan Fair on paid administrative leave, the latter of whom has since been fired.

Kylie Jenner has stayed quiet on her reported pregnancy, but she dropped a major hint on Snapchat with a possible call-out to her unborn baby.

Athletic director Tom Jurich was also placed on leave last month and the school suspended associate head coach Kenny Johnson and assistant coach Jordan Fair on October 6.

Bowen, a freshman, has since been suspended indefinitely by the school and has retained an attorney in an effort to gain reinstatement.

As he did during the prostitution scandal, Pitino argued ignorance and claimed that head coaches of major basketball programs can not be held responsible for the shady actions of their employees. Piling on to his bad afternoon, Adidas, the company that allegedly worked with Pitino and Louisville to pay and bring in top recruits, dropped their contract with the former Cardinals coach once the ULAA's decision was made official.

Pitino reportedly stands to lose the $44 million remaining in salary and bonuses on his contract through the 2025-26 season since he was sacked with cause.

In August, Louisville signed a new 10-year, $160 million with Adidas that has since come under scrutiny in the wake of the FBI's ongoing investigation into corruption in college basketball.
