Miami Beach police fatally shot a woman on Saturday evening after she drove her auto into an occupied vehicle, before hitting a police officer who responded to the crash.

Miami Beach Fire Department spokesman Jorge Linares said the injured officer was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is now in a stable condition.

As the she was fleeing from the crash, she struck another vehicle on Lincoln Drive, police said.

Investigators are now looking into whether the other officer involved should've fired his gun.

The area remained an active scene Sunday night with several blocks near Collins Avenue and 12th Street closed. Late Sunday, Miami-Dade Police said there was a passenger in the BMW who was being questioned.

The BMW, its driver fatally wounded, then crashed into a white SUV in the middle of Washington and 12th.

Miami Beach police are investigating the collisions that occurred. Police confirmed a man was in the auto with the woman. Oates said they were investigating.

A pair of tourists from Philly witnessed the initial crash from their dinner at the Sugar Factory patio along Ocean Drive. She was treated at the scene and transported to hospital, where she later died.

"She started the vehicle and ran away", witness Miguel Garcia told CBS Miami.

"Like four or five times", Garcia said. Garcia said he and several others followed the female driver on foot as she drove away. "I heard like four or five shots, like, 'pow, pow, pow pow!' And then the vehicle lost control".

Garcia said that the woman was pulled out of the vehicle - not breathing - and that there was blood everywhere. Visitors were being told it could be hours before they could get to their cars parked on the street.
