  • New Waterproof Kindle Oasis Can Be Underwater For an Hour

If you didn't like the design of the last Oasis. well, tough luck.

The retail giant has created a new version of its Kindle Oasis reader, the company's first to withstand immersion in water.

It's a luxury device for keen readers and, at this end of the market, there isn't much in the way of competition, other than from Amazon's own stable of cheaper e-readers. It had an intuitively designed ergonomic build that wasn't waterproof, high-resolution screen and a price tag most people found exorbitant. While it appears lopsided, it actually feels balanced when you hold the Oasis one-handed. The long and short of it, though, is that they all do the job and cost an terrible lot less than the Kindle Oasis. It has a 7.8-inch screen, which might be too big to carry around comfortably but great if you do most of your reading on the couch at home.

That battery is good for 6-weeks of reading and there's now 12 LED illuminators down the side to front light that E Ink panel.

The rear of the device is now aluminium, rather than soft-touch plastic, and those pins that connected the charging case have been taken off. The case also doesn't have a battery in it anymore. With Whispersync for Voice on the new Kindle Oasis, you will be able to listen to an audiobook while in the auto coming home from work, then switch back to the textual version when you get home - everything will by perfectly synchronized on the same Kindle. This includes more font sizes, five levels of boldness, the ability to invert black and white, and an option for ragged text alignment.

International Monetary Fund raises China growth forecast for 2017 to 6.8%
The IMF says the global economy is gaining strength, with growth marked up at 3.6% this year and 3.7% for 2018. In 2017, it is forecast to rise to 1.4% in Norway and increase (by about 1.5%) to 3% in Canada.

What is has done is finally make use of the Bluetooth chip inside, so you can connect up Bluetooth speakers and headphones and utilise the new Audible audiobook integration.

The backlight is uniform across the display, and now features automatic brightness so it can react to environmental lighting. This will automatically alter the intensity of the light depending on your environment. They no longer come with extra batteries as they did last time, but they can now act as kickstands for hands-free reading (or listening). According to Amazon, the battery will last upto six weeks on full charge (two weeks less from the last Oasis).

Kindle Oasis 2 vs Oasis price: Which is better value?

Audible will arrive on the new Kindle Oasis as part of a software update once it starts shipping, which will also roll out to users of the first-gen Oasis and the 8th-gen Kindle in "the coming months".
