Stallone shared a picture of himself with star Michael B Jordan on Instagram, saying: "Looking forward to directing and producing the incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in Creed 2 next year". He takes over directing duties from Ryan Coogler, who helmed the first film. Known for playing cinema's most famous boxer, Sylvester Stallone announced yesterday that he would direct the next spin-off from the Rocky saga. "There's a lot there." .

Some of Sylvester Stallone's best work as an actor, a writer, and a director has been in the Rocky film series.

Close to a decade later, writer/director Ryan Coogler - fresh of the success of his Sundance breakout "Fruitvale Station" - convinced Stallone to come back as Rocky.

His caption indicates he'll be at the helm of the production this time around. "2018" and the hashtags #Creed 2 #mgm #fitness #Rocky. But the first Creed was such an emotionally rich journey for both Adonis and Rocky that the sequel doesn't necessarily have to jump into that story.

Creed 2 is now expected in theaters sometime during 2019.
