"We're confronting rogue regimes from Iran to North Korea and we are challenging the communist dictatorship of Cuba and the socialist oppression of Venezuela", Trump told the Values Voter summit, a conservative political conference. Looking to Perkins on stage, Trump later said, "He's saying - they're saying no".

"We will not allow government workers to censor sermons or target our pastors or our ministers or rabbis", the president said. I do believe that he's a changed man, and that he's received the Gospel.' She said at a White House meeting she attended with about 25 others including Vice President Mike Pence, Pence vouched for his boss, telling them: 'This president is a believer.

Trump, the first sitting president to address the Values Voter Summit, ticked off the promises he's fulfilled to evangelical Christians and other conservatives, pledging to turn back the clock in what he described as a nation that has drifted away from its religious roots. "We protect religious liberty", he said. He got another standing ovation when he proclaimed that "we respect our great American flag". And how times have changed. "I didn't have a schedule, [but] if I did have a schedule, I would say we are substantially ahead of schedule".

"These are the people we want to hear from and they are not going to be silenced any longer", continued Trump, receiving applause from the audience.

He also declared an end to the "war on Christmas", a favourite theme of conservative media outlets such as Fox News.

"We're getting near that handsome Christmas season that people don't talk about any more, they don't use the word Christmas because it is not politically correct", Trump said.

False data scandal at Kobe extends to steel

He bemoaned the use of the phrase "Happy Holidays" as a secular seasonal greeting and vowed a return to "Merry Christmas".

"Our people never lose faith, never give in, and always hope for a better tomorrow", he said.

The National Park Service, however, has withdrawn former plans to mount the flag at the insistence of a vexed Secretary Ryan Zinke who wished to make certain "no rainbow flag would be flying on USA government property", reported New York City's Gay City News.

"In the last 10 months we have followed through on one promise after another".

80 percent of white evangelicals cast their vote for Trump last November, according to exit polls. The constituency is vital for Trump, whose approval has dipped even in red states such as Tennessee (-23 percentage points), MS (-21) and Kentucky (-20), according to a Morning Consult survey published this week.

Trump also issued a call for unity at the event, recalling recent tragedies affecting the nation, such as the mass shooting at Las Vegas, the wildfire claiming lives in California and devastation caused by hurricanes along the Gulf Coast, in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, there is no president of the US territory - that would be Trump himself.
