  • London regulator will defend decision not to renew Uber's licence in court

The appeal allows Uber to continue operating in London until the dispute is resolved.

Despite the decision from TfL, and Uber's licence expiring on 30 September, Londoners will still be able to hail Uber cars until the full legal process is finalised, which could take up to a year or more.

Just hours before Uber's deadline that would have seen all drivers barred from working, Uber has launched an appeal at Westminster magistrate's court Friday morning. "As our new CEO [chief executive] has said, we are determined to make things right", an Uber spokesperson said.

Today was Uber's last day to appeal Transport for London's decision not to renew its licence.

The Financial Times reports that an Uber representative stated the appeal had been submitted while "constructive discussions" with TfL continue.

The authorities have a number of concerns about Uber, such as its use of technology that allegedly helps it to evade law enforcement officials. "No further comment will be made pending the appeal hearing".

Senator Susan Collins Won't Run for Governor of Maine
Had Collins made a decision to run for governor she would have joined a crowded field to replace two-term Republican Gov. King says Collins' decision reflects the senator's work ethic, dedication to serving ME people and "infinite energy".

Uber's new chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi met transport commissioner Mike Brown last week to discuss the firm's future in the capital.

Uber described those talks as "constructive", while TfL said the talks "centred on what needs to happen to ensure a thriving taxi and private hire market in London".

During a City Hall question session, London mayor Sadiq Khan said it "will take its course".

Khosrowshahi also published an open letter in London newspaper The Evening Standard apologising for his company's prior misdemeanours. An online petition against TFL's decision has garnered over 850,000 signatures.

The firm's approach to reporting serious criminal offences and background checks on drivers were cited among the concerns.
