  • Yogi Adityanath government proposes to build 100 metre tall Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is planning to install a grand statue of Lord Ram in a warrior pose on the River Saryu in Ayodhya, as part of a plan to put the temple town on the religious tourism map.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Tuesday strongly opposed to the Uttar Pradesh government's proposal to build a grand statue of Lord Ram on the bank of Saryu river in Ayodhya.

The communique stated that the statue will be build at Saryughat after clearance from the National Green Tribunal.

Awasthi made an elaborate presentation before governor Ram Naik on Monday about the details of the integrated tourism development programme that will cost approximately Rs 195.89 crore and the grand Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya this year.

Avinash Kumar Awasthi said that this was a concept proposal and the letter to the National Green Tribunal seeking clearance was yet to be sent.

The presentation also included information on programmes scheduled for Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya on October 18.

A "deepotsav" will be organised on 'Ram Ki Paidi' where 1.71 lakh earthen lamps will be lit, Awasthi said.

The "Deeputsav" will be attended by Mr. Adityanath, Mr. Ram Naik, State Tourism minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Union Minister of State for Tourism K.J. Alphons, Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma and several other leaders, apart from pilgrims and tourists. It will be a heritage walk through Ayodhya, a Shobha Yatra to exhibit the arrival of Lord Ram to Ayodhya and a symbolic rajyabhishek that means coronation. The artists from Indonesia and Thailand will also stage the Ram Leela there.

The budget presented by the Yogi government, which came to power in March, had special mention of Ayodhya, Varanasi and Mathura, earmarking ₹1,240 crore for the Ramayan, Buddhist and Krishna circuits in these cities. It will be among the tallest statues in the world-the record is held by the Spring Temple Buddha in Henan, China, which stands 153m in height, though the proposed Shivaji Maharaj memorial off Mumbai could take the crown by a few metres.
