  • Chinese women plastic surgery

But three women, said to be Chinese, got into a spot of bother this week after travelling to South Korea to have plastic surgery.

According the Chinese publication Shanghaiist the women were barred from their return flight after security officials couldn't confirm their swollen faces matched the photos in their passports.

The report originated on Sunday from Jian Huahua, a Chinese TV anchor who shared the photo of the trio on her Weibo account after apparently running into them at a South Korea airport at the end of her Golden Week vacation.

However, Jian has since removed her post, indicating that this story may very well have burned the Chinese internets.

Post-surgery swelling and bandages put the three women in a hard situation during passport control, when South Korean officers could not identify the women by their IDs.

It was unclear whether the women had returned to their home country on October 9. Up to half of women under 30 in Seoul are estimated to have had surgery; graphic advertisements of before and after photos are strewn across the metro system billboards, and the chi-chi Gangnam district, where many clinics are based, is known as the "Improvement Quarter".

An incident similar to the one that happened with the three women took place last month with "Human Ken Doll" Rodrigo Alves, when the 34-year-old plastic surgery fanatic faced trouble on arriving at Dubai, where he was detained at the airport due to his passport picture. The people of the country believe that getting the surgery done leads to better employment prospects and a happier life, says news.com.au.
