Apple is reportedly running resources for the development of its next big project: a new augmented reality headset.

However, the company has also for some time worked on specialized glass for AR glasses and headsets, telling prospective customers in a data sheet: "For "see-through" consumer electronic applications, Corning's solutions deliver outstanding field of view, image quality and definition (sharpness, contrast and low chromatic aberrations)". CEO Tim Cook has already spoken enthusiastically about AR in the press, the report noted.

Apple is preparing to release its AR glasses in 2020, according to the latest report from Bloomberg.

Apple is developing a "breakthrough" augmented-reality (AR) headset, a report said Wednesday.

Technical Chart Situation for The Walt Disney Company (DIS)
The institutional investors in our partner's database now have: 55.72 million shares, up from 54.45 million shares in 2017Q1. Victory Capital owns 837,923 shares or 0.08% of their U.S. portfolio. 8,745,434 shares of the stock were exchanged.

Apple is not the only company working on this technology. The operating system would be based on the iOS platform that powers Apple's mobile devices and would allow users to access apps and download content. Geoff Stahl, formerly a software manager for games and graphics at Apple, is one of the directors of the "rOS" software group.

Apple is still firming up plans for this future device, per Bloomberg, but it's exploring various interaction methods including touch sensitive input, Siri voice interaction and even head gestures.

Testing is being done internally on the HTC Vive and a device that uses an iPhone screen but is similar to a Samsung Gear VR, per the report. Apple also invested $200 million in Corning in May as part of a $1 billion commitment to strengthen USA manufacturing.

Apple is working on several challenges like battery life. They could help developers create software that remembers accurately where a digital object was placed in a virtual space, using a technology called persistent tracking; you look away, and the object is still there.
