Former national security adviser Mike Flynn may soon be cooperating or negotiating with prosecutors, after Flynn's legal team reportedly told President Donald Trump's counsel they could no longer discuss special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, the New York Times reported Thursday.

Even though the notification doesn't affirm Flynn's cooperation by itself, indications are that President Trump's team took the news as a sign that the former national security adviser is talking with Mueller. However, attorneys are required to stop passing information to each other when doing so could pose a conflict of interest. Information sharing may also be abandoned, for example, when a lawyer is attempting to negotiate with prosecutors, but those negotiations aren't always successful.

Robert Mueller's team has had Flynn in the crosshairs for months.

Attorneys for the White House and Flynn did not immediately respond to requests for comment from CNBC.

The paper also included withering assessments of British politicians and officials from senior figures from... Officials said "the biggest problem is the chaotic political situation in the United Kingdom government".

Former Trump campaign officials Paul Manafort and Rick Gates already face charges relating to their undisclosed foreign lobbying for Ukraine.

Flynn has been a strong proponent of the USA developing stronger bonds with Russian Federation and had been cultivating his ties to the Kremlin long before joining the Trump campaign as an adviser.

Flynn served 24 days as Trump's national security adviser but was sacked after it was discovered he had misrepresented his contacts with a Russian diplomat to Vice President Michael Pence.

He made a number of paid appearances on the pro-Kremlin TV network and was seated next to President Vladimir Putin during a 2015 dinner in Moscow.
