Compensation committee to talk Roger Goodell contract

13 November, 2017, 02:06 | Author: Joan Malone

Roger Goodell wants to get paid. a lot. Next step: Leak to the media what Goodell is looking for. Through a letter from Cowboys counsel, Jones said Blank, who is the head of the NFL's compensation committee, misled the league's 32 owners about the details of the contract and that the owners are not unanimous on Goodell's extension, according to an ESPN report. An issue that some owners have with this is a few don't even make $40 million annually, when you factor out the overall value of the team they own. "It's offensive. It's unseemly".

"Roger is taking a leap of faith", another owner said.

ESPN cites that he makes a reported $30 million annually. That, coupled with the continued fallout from the player protests during the singing of "The Star Spangled Banner", have resulted in Jones' threat to sue the league if any such deal with Goodell goes through. And, judging by what Goodell is asking for, it's no wonder that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is so upset.

The NFL's Compensation Committee is set to hold a conference call on Monday to discuss and expedite negotiations for the proposed contract extension of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, according to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN. Several league sources noted, however, that Jones was allowed to participate in some of the functions of that committee, despite not being formally named to it, back in the spring and summer, precisely because of his support of Goodell and his ability to move things along as an influential owner.

In September, Israel intercepted a UAV after it infiltrated into the demilitarized zone on the Syrian-Israeli border in the Golan Heights.

"I'm willing to bet on myself", Goodell said in a months-ago meeting with the committee, willing to forfeit much of the money that his current deal now guarantees in lieu of earning the bonuses.

There also are those in the league who believe the only way Goodell would not stay on as commissioner would be if he walked away.

As for what is best for the the game of professional football, one could argue that Goodell should be focused on resurrecting the NFL's ratings this year instead of his salary. "It's just killing the game".
