Delhi smog: City's residents frustrated over vehicle rationing

The National Green Tribunal on Monday lashed out at the UP government and the Noida Authority for not abiding by its order banning construction in the national capital region despite PM10 level being over 900, saying they were making a "mockery of the system". It also seeks an effective implementation of the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme, which the Delhi government scrapped after the National Green Tribunal asked for the removal of exemptions to two-wheelers, women and VIPs.
The Delhi government counsel said that from next year, with better preparation, it would be in a position to implement the odd-even scheme without any exemption.
However, women, two-wheelers and government servants won't be exempted during the scheme.
Earlier, NGT on Friday asked the Delhi government to submit data or studies on the basis of which it has planned to introduce the odd-even vehicle rationing formula from next week. "We will go back to NGT on Monday, file a review petition for them to reconsider their decision regarding the two", Kailash Gehlot, Delhi's Transport Minister, told the media.
The NGT questioned the Delhi government over not filing a review petition and wondered if its statement on Saturday was a media gimmick.
The Delhi government said it will approach the green court again on Monday, and request that exemptions be given for women drivers and two-wheelers.
