  • Streaming Dreams Drove Disney's Interest in Fox Assets

The service will launch with "a lot of high quality" content and will increase its price as the platform adds titles over time.

For some, this might indicate a future where Netflix's preeminence in the streaming video space is overtaken by Disney, which is also set to pull some its programming from Netflix when its own service launches.

"Our plan on the Disney side is to price this substantially below where Netflix is", Iger said.

"We also believe that our brands and our franchises really matter, as we've seen through Netflix and all our other platforms". That's where the notion of Netflix keeping their current shows alive, including spinoffs, comes in. Plus, Disney plans to produce four or five movies a year exclusively for the service, Iger said.

We've been hearing for more than a year now that a live action Star Wars television show was in the pipeline, and now more details about that have surfaced.

At 88 percent, Georgia Tech's GSR surpasses the Division I average of 87 percent, which is also an all-time record. The Hokies' 86 percent GSR in football ranked fifth in the ACC and first among public universities in the league.

Disney faced other headwinds this year, including a light release schedule of just eight films from its movie division, a drop from past years, and the ongoing challenge of finding consumer products to match the bonanzas generated by Frozen and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disney originally announced its intention to withdraw content from Netflix during an earnings report in early August.

What's more, it's been revealed that Disney had set its sights on the rival studio not just to complete their Marvel Cinematic Universe, but rather to also acquire the massive library of original programming put out by Fox's TV arm. If you pay for cable, do you get to watch shows on ABC's site like you can now, or will they only live on Disney's streaming service? "We can't wait to continue with this new series of films".

A new Star Wars TV series is in the works.

Where will it be available?

Netflix now offers three different subscription tiers to US subscribers: a basic plan for $7.99 a month, a premium plan at $10.99, and an ultra premium plan for $13.99. Netflix ended the September quarter with 109.25 million streaming subscribers worldwide, including 52.77 million in the USA and 56.48 million in global markets. Iger also announced that the service will include a redesigned app that will give users the ability to stream channels and "thousands more" live events "for a fee".
