Most of the 150 laid off staffers work behind the camera.

Reportedly, all those affected by this new round of layoffs will be getting a severance package that includes pay, a bonus for the year, and continuation of health benefits for an undisclosed amount of time. "They will also appreciate your support", Skipper wrote.

The announcement was made by ESPN President John Skipper in a memo to staff this morning.

"We will continue to invest in ways which will best position us to serve the modern sports fan and support the success of our business", Skipper said in a memo to employees.

The cuts at ESPN are coming as rising programming costs are bumping up against declining subscribers and lower overall viewership.

Per MoffettNathanson analysis, ESPN gets a disproportionately scant return on its NFL rights, airing the "Monday Night Football" package at an estimated cost of $43 per 1,000 gross ratings points. Sports Illustrated writer Richard Deitsch reported in early November that the company was going to cut 100 employees by the end of the year, and the long-running SportsCenter program would be hard hit.

The sports media giant laid off around 150 employees in the latest round of job cuts. SportsCenter anchors Jaymee Sire, Jade McCarthy, and Jay Crawford lost their jobs during the first round of layoffs, and Lindsay Czarniak walked away in August when her contract expired after failing to agree on a role with ESPN. That marks a 2 percent dip versus the year-ago 88.4 million subs and a 13 percent drop compared to the 100.1 million subs ESPN reached back in 2011.

ESPN has roughly 8,000 employees, according to multiple sources.
