Facebook Wants Your Nude Photos (for a Good Cause)

The dominant social media platform is trying to help combat revenge porn from ever making it online.

The company piloted the technology in Australia - allowing people who've shared nudes with partners to upload the files to Facebook, blocking their partner from posting them.

Facebook wants your nudes.

Facebook is testing out a pilot program in Australia to prevent revenge porn.

One woman said that she would be in favour of this if it stops intimate images being sent without the consent of the person in them.

Once that happens, Facebook's analysts "hash" the image, storing a unique fingerprint which prevents further instances being uploaded and shared. When uploading content to Facebook or any other site, there is always a fear that the content could be used to harass or bully the original uploader.

Universal's Dark Universe Loses Producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan
Like The Mummy itself, the Dark Universe was likely going to be bad, but not so bad that I didn't want to see it . An office that was revamped for the project and decorated with monsters is now mostly empty.

The program in Australia is in conjunction with the government's e-Safety Commission, an office dedicated to promoting digital safety, especially for children.

A spokesperson states in order for a photo to qualify as revenge porn an employee of Facebook must view the image first for themselves.

The company is hoping that using the technology will save users the agony of having the pictures deleted only after reporting them to Facebook.

People concerned their nude pictures may be uploaded by an ex are being asked to send the images to Facebook so they can be blocked if they are posted in the future.

"This pilot has the potential to disable the control and power perpetrators hold over victims, particularly in cases of ex-partner retribution and sextortion, and the subsequent harm that could come to them", Inman Grant said in a statement.

The unorthodox scheme is now being tested among Facebook's Australian users, but Britain, Canada and the United States are also expected to take part in the project.
