  • India plunged 21 places in World Economic Forum’s annual gender report

Send some of them an email and you'll receive an automatic reply telling you they are "Out of Office" until the end of the year - even though they are at work.

In terms of what the government is doing about this, Minister of State for Women Anne Milton told The Debrief "Despite the Equal Pay Act being passed almost 50 years ago, too many women are still held back in their careers".

November 10 is Equal Pay Day in the United Kingdom, which highlights the gender pay gap.

"I'm doing it to support those on lower wages - I work for a lot of elderly people whose [female] carers are on such poor wages", she says.

However, people from all around the world showed their support for this year's Equal Pay Day via social media posts.

"Deloitte estimates that the gender pay gap will be eradicated by the year 2069. It should matter to everyone #equalpayday". Women in private sector jobs earn an average of 17 percent less than men, while those in the public sector earn 14 percent less.

Where comparisons are not helpful (i.e. outlier salaries), the Equal Pay Day campaign includes them; but where comparisons are much more helpful - and paint a positive picture for women in the workplace - they are omitted from the briefing.

The second-quarter retail sales at JLR grew 5% to 1.49 lakh units, with its top market China clocking an increase of 27%. The company said it plans to spend 4 billion pounds in JLR this fiscal year to boost capacity and launch new products.

The society says the pay of younger women in particular is falling behind that of men, claiming the drive to equalise pay is going backwards and will now take 100 years to close.

Female graduates start on £2,000 - £3,000 less than their male counterparts, the society's chief executive, Sam Smethers, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme, adding that female apprentices take home about £1,000 less a year.

Here's how we're tackling the gender pay gap in government - and fighting for more action at Westminster.

More broadly, The Fawcett Society suggest a "divided" labour market is partly to blame - citing evidence that women make up 80% of care and leisure workers, but only 8% of skilled trade jobs, which are more highly paid.

The UK Government have in recent years indicated a willingness to deal with discrimination in the workplace through the Equality Act 2010, and more recently a requirement for some companies to publicly disclose data on their own gender pay gaps, with the hopes of "shaming" employers into paying equally. We know it widens throughout women's working lives, particularly driven by the unequal impact of caring roles, and becomes a whopping pensions gap of 40% in retirement.

An earlier equal pay campaign from WEP and Now created a visually arresting outdoor campaign for the Women's Equality Party and Liverpool Metro Mayoral candidate Tabitha Morton. She also called for the Government to introduce mandatory shared parental leave to prevent women from taking on the bulk of the childcare responsibilities and thus losing out on their professional development.
